Brooke Notes: A Publisher’s Perspective

With May comes Mother’s Day… and DASH GAMES! I’m thrilled the Winston-Salem Dash is back with another season. Their first home game is scheduled for Tuesday, May 4th, and I cannot wait! Don’t forget that Mother’s Day is the following Sunday, May 9th. I believe moms deserve being celebrated ALL year long… but I love that we have a special day designated for it. Happy Mother’s Day to my mom, my mamaw, all the women in my life who have felt like second mothers to me, and to ALL the amazing mamas out there!

I am blessed to have a mom who I also consider my best friend. The older I get, the more alike I realize we are. We may not look alike (I’m the spitting image of my dad), but I’m honored to have picked up even a small portion of her drive, passion, and tenacity for life (and a little bit of her dramatic side, too). If you know Keela (aka KeeKee), you know what I’m talking about. She is one-in-a-million.

I am thrilled to tell you about a spread in this issue we’ve been planning for a few months! You can see the faces behind several local W-S Mother/Daughter-owned businesses! They tell us what it’s like working together and it’s the perfect addition to our May issue. And if you are on the hunt for the perfect Mother’s Day gift, look no further! We have a Mother’s Day Gift Guide with lots of amazing – and local—gift ideas!

In case you’ve missed it, we’ve been doing a “Team Forsyth Mags” Question of the month for the last several months. This month, we asked our team to share their favorite local dish at their favorite local restaurant. Responses ranged from the Bananas Foster pancakes at Young Cardinal to the gourmet meatloaf at Mozelle’s. Check out all of our responses in our print issue on page 118. This weather is perfect for dining al fresco and I’d encourage you to give these spots a try! Local restaurants still need our support more than ever! Be sure to tell them the team at Forsyth Mags sent you! Lauren wrote an awesome article this month rounding up some of the best spots in Winston-Salem to dine outdoors at– check it out HERE!

One last thing… Registration is officially open for 2021 Tour de Boutique! Tickets can be purchased HERE!  We received overwhelmingly positive feedback on our self-guided version of the tour last year and are pleased to announce that we are hosting this self-guided version again on Saturday, October 2nd! Stay tuned to our @forsythmags social media pages to stay in-the-know for this exciting event!

All my best,

B
