Did you know May is mental Health Month? As someone who has personally struggled with my mental health, I believe it’s crucial to continue raising awareness about this significant issue. While I am happy to see the stigma surrounding anxiety and depression medication slowly fading, I recognize that there’s still progress to be made, especially concerning the mental health of men. Men are often expected to be strong and resilient, which can make it challenging for them to openly discuss their struggles. This is a reminder to check in on the mental health of your family and friends. Often those that appear the strongest are the ones closest to their breaking point.
This month, we’re honored to share several articles related to mental health:
- Embracing Mental Health Month: Family Ties
- Self-Love for a Better You
- Learning to Lean Into Your Emotional Strengths and Weaknesses
- Inaugural Black Mental Health Summit
May is also Mother’s Day! I’d like to give a shoutout to my incredible mom, who is not only my mother but also my business partner and friend. We continue to work hard on our relationship, and I’m proud of where we are. I am a big believer in the importance of nurturing ALL the relationships in your life – not just the one with your partner or spouse. I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside my mom every day. She’s passionate, lively and she tends to get a little too wound up when she has too much coffee (LOL!), but I love her so much! Happy Mother’s Day, Momma!
We’re thrilled to feature the beautiful Christy Spencer on our cover this month. She and her husband own Robert Hall, a stunning venue in downtown Winston-Salem. I remember Christy giving me a tour of the space when it was just a vision, and it’s been incredible to witness her vision come to life. You can read all about Robert Hall HERE.
A few weeks ago, we hosted our third annual Women on the Move conference. It was the BEST day, and I was floating on cloud 9 for several days afterward. We’re already brainstorming ideas for 2025 – you won’t want to miss it. Check out some fun photos and a recap of the day!
Be sure to mark your calendar for Girls’ Night Out on May 8th at MidTown Cafe and Dessertery. The weather should be perfect for hanging out on their stunning patio. We hope to see you there!
Finally, I want to encourage you to read the article featuring Annie Sims with the Winston-Salem Police Department. Recruitment is at an all-time high, and it’s no accident that Annie is involved in that. Here at Forsyth Woman Magazine, we love to see a woman taking on a role that has historically been male-dominated. We’re cheering for you, Annie!
Wishing you a fabulous month of May!
