Nothing defines Fraleigh’s in Clemmons more than family – and this popular boutique has been guiding women in their search for the perfect clothing and accessories to enhance their personal style for 42 years. Still going strong, being family owned and operated means everything at Fraleigh’s, and Owner Donna Merriman knows her success would simply be non-existent if it wasn’t for the unconditional love and support of her own family through the years.
“My mom and dad are the ones who believed in me and my dream of owning a clothing store,” said Donna. “I was blessed to have a business partner of 30+ years who not only was my mom, but also my best friend!”
Since the tender age of 15, Donna has known a passion for clothing – and couldn’t be more thankful she was able to realize her dream of owning a local boutique with her mother, Mary, by her side. Fraleigh’s opened in August of 1981 with Donna and Mary soon earning the reputation of the friendliest, most fashionable mother-daughter team in town. That privilege is now reserved for Donna and her daughter-in-law, Ally Merriman, who has become the trusted other half of the team since Mary’s passing in 2020. If you’re not local to Clemmons, here’s a bit of trivia: The boutique’s name evolved from Mary’s middle name, Francis (Fra) and Donna’s middle name of Leigh (Leigh) – and the name still symbolizes a love of style, personalized service and never treating clients as anything but close, close family.
If you’re shopping for an important occasion or simply looking to freshen your closet now for spring and summer, Fraleigh’s is the gathering spot for clothing, costume jewelry, shoes, bags, hats and scarves. Everything on the boutique floor is hand-picked by Donna and Ally at the market four times a year, and from their well-established vendor relationships who have a keen eye for Fraleigh’s customers, as well. Given their long-running success in the Clemmons area, it’s quite common for several generations to shop together at Fraleigh’s – and there’s nothing better than a mother-daughter adventure to find a perfect outfit.
Offering the best blend of trendy and timeless, both Donna and Ally enjoy bringing pieces they know clients will adore back to the boutique. That includes every look from blue jeans to professional, and every mood in between. We’ve all come to look forward to “live” visits with Donna on Facebook and Instagram (every Sunday through Friday), excited that we’ll get a glimpse of any new collections in the boutique and discover a delightful piece that might be the spark of color we’ve been craving! Donna often shares interesting ways to pair new pieces and accessories – while keeping her “shared” time with customers – those that are local as well as those from across the country – a fun, personable experience. After all, that’s what family does!
