Personal success is measured in countless ways, and success means nothing if you can’t share it with those you love most. For Joyce Mauldin-Ray and her husband, Wayne, success has been a strong marriage of family, creativity, and a clear vision of the future of their beloved business – Dalton’s Crossing located in King, NC. It’s a journey they could not accomplish without each other!
If you live in Winston-Salem, the town of King is a mere 15 minutes away, and this popular shopping destination is worth every mile, for an “experience” that will keep you coming back, and bringing friends. For the past seven years, Joyce, Wayne, and their wonderful part-time employees, Stephanie, Amy, and Tami, have welcomed shoppers with what they like to call the “feeling of home” – where the staff knows your tastes, your sizes, and what fashions and accessories will make you feel most beautiful.
Their vision is growing and thriving, as Joyce and Wayne are furthering their commitment to the community – and to their exceptionally loyal customer base – with another expansion. Not to worry, the hometown feel will be more present than ever, and new customers will soon learn it was oh-so-worth the drive to shop at Dalton’s Crossing!
“We are in the process of acquiring the historic Old Bank Building (circa 1900s) in downtown King, to complement the adjoining building we purchased about four years ago,” Joyce is thrilled to share. “Nothing will change about Dalton’s Crossing’s location, but we will own both buildings now, giving us security and peace of mind for the continued growth of our business.”
In addition to feeling relaxed and comfortable amid the Dalton’s Crossing ambiance, the “Shop Small” trend clearly resonates with the store’s target market. Family owned and operated, Joyce loves the fact that her customers know they aren’t shopping with just another franchise, but with a business who so appreciates its customers that they continue to spread their entrepreneurial “wings” to continue providing the best atmosphere and the best collections. Joyce is thrilled that their clientele comes from the Triad and beyond, and she is most proud that the store’s success has come from honest hard work, and dedication to their audience. Both sides of their families share Stokes County roots, and Joyce and Wayne make their home in King as well.
“We opened the store because we wanted to bring something to King that was missing, and something to attract the types of people you want traveling to visit your town,” says Joyce.
While she may be the most visible half of the Dalton’s Crossing family team, it’s her heartfelt wish to tell customers that much of the store’s success is due to her husband’s creativity and diligence towards every new project.
“Without him, this would never have been a reality,” says Joyce, proudly. “He is the silent partner, but sometimes those who are silent speak the loudest!” Wayne’s influence – from store layout and functionality to the much-loved memorabilia that adds still another touch of home – is apparent.
“We hope our regular customers and potential customers understand we are in this for the long haul and look forward to building strong relationships with our patrons,” says Joyce. We want to emphasize to those making the trip to King, NC they will experience excellent customer service, quality women’s apparel, and accessories, along with the hometown feel so many of us miss these days.”
Then, there’s the obvious personal reward for shoppers: stylish attire selected to flatter a variety of shapes, sizes, and personalities, lovingly chosen by Joyce herself. Always nurturing her life-long love of fashion, Joyce is excited about several new lines coming in for Spring 2019 and pleased that a new line from this past year – Neon Buddha – has been such an excellent customer fit. It’s also important to the Dalton’s Crossing team to showcase their Made in the USA lines: Cut Loose, Prairie Cotton, Chalet, Et’ Lois, Fresh Produce, Sea Breeze, Plume and Thread, and Salaam. While you’re trying on new favorite pieces, there’s also a lovely seating area for friends waiting to offer their vote. (Plus, it’s the perfect spot for tired shoppers to pause and rejuvenate for another circle around the store!)
