The Basics of “Baby Botox” and the Magic Mesotherapy

It was just back in 2014 that the stunning Robin Wright, star of “The Princess Bride” and Netflix’s “House of Cards,” went on the record about Botox. The difference for her? Saying no to the frozen look so common in Hollywood. “It’s just the tiniest sprinkle of Botox twice a year,” Wright said and admitted to loving the softening effect of a light dose widely distributed across the forehead. So what’s behind the idea of “sprinkling” or “Baby Botox” as some refer to it? The experts at Lewisville Laser & Aesthetics give us the inside scoop.

“The idea of a sprinkle of Botox has grown immensely in popularity, particularly for younger women just trying it out for the first time,” says Dr. Leigh Summer of Lewisville Laser. “When we administer an ultra-light dosage of Botox or Dysport to patients before strong facial muscles have time to set those lines, we find that less is needed in the future to maintain a beautiful, natural and still expressive look.”

Dr. Summer goes on to say that her practice is seeing increasing numbers of clients wanting to take advantage of the beautiful, subtle effect of a light dosing of Botox. They’re also interested in learning more about the overall aesthetic benefits of mesotherapy. But what exactly is mesotherapy? It’s an injection technique that stimulates collagen via microneedling, simultaneously delivering very small doses of both a neuromodulator (such as Botox or Dysport) and a filler (such as Restylane or Juvederm). The result is a relaxation of fine lines and a marked improvement in pore size and skin texture.

“Mesotherapy is a wonderful choice for clients looking for a subtle improvement in the appearance of the skin on the face, neck and décolleté,” Dr. Summer says. Microneedling (a procedure that uses tiny needles to make micro-channels in the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin) is the perfect vehicle for delivering these powerful treatments in a diffuse way. The combined small doses of filler and neuromodulator help to support the dermis, and work together to gently lift and tighten the skin.
