1200 Happy Kids & 2400 Happy Feet!

This year, 1200 local elementary school kids are starting the school year off right!   On August 24th, The Big Fit rolled into Petree and Mineral Springs Elementary Schools to outfit the students with brand new running shoes.

The Big Fit is the largest shoe fitting project of the year for local shoe charity, Mission: Feet First. To pull off a shoe fitting for 1200 kids in one day, Mission: Feet First teamed up with Love Outloud.  Through generous donors, Mission: Feet First was able to coordinate the purchase of almost $30,000 of new, New Balance running shoes, while Love Outloud coordinated all the logistics to help make it a seamless event.   Over 80 volunteers helped children try on a new pair of Balega socks and a new, proper-fitting pair of running shoes.

Mission: Feet First (a 501(c)3) was founded in 2010 by Fleet Feet Winston-Salem and New Balance Winston-Salem owners, Emily and Keith Davis.  Emily and Keith have a passion for their Christian faith and for helping others.

Mission: Feet First was created to blend their passion for good fitting shoes with their desire to help those in need in the local community. Through this charity, they are able to fit the adult homeless community and in need children with new and like-new running shoes.

Contributions to Mission: Feet First allow for purchases of additional new shoe inventory.  Shoes are purchased from vendor first-quality closeout inventory to ensure that the right size and fit is provided to the recipient. As much as possible, Mission: Feet First strives to provide a similar fit experience for the homeless community as what is offered to customers being fit at Fleet Feet and New Balance Winston-Salem.  To learn more visit: missionfeetfirst.com.
