What Are You Thankful For?

BY MIKE MCGILVARY, Financial Advisor

There is something about this time of year. College and NFL football are in full swing (Go Panthers!). The leaves on trees have changed color from bright green to deep red and are falling off branches. The holidays are right around the corner, and family trips are typically on the upcoming agenda. This season is wonderful, but sometimes can feel rushed and hectic. If your holiday season is anything like my family’s, you may feel so busy traveling, planning, shopping and cooking that you don’t have enough time in the day for yourself or to enjoy family time.

With this being such a busy time of year, I believe family sometimes can be pushed aside for the current task at hand. I have found as I grow in my professional career that it is important to take a moment to enjoy the little things in life. For instance, throwing a football with your nephew after watching the Cowboys play on Thanksgiving Day, spending time visiting with your grandmother after she has made a long trip from out of town, or taking the opportunity to introduce a newborn to their cousins for the first time. Simple, yet life-changing moments are an important part of this time of year. There have been many years during this season where I wished time would slow down just a bit.

I challenge the readers of this article to stop and think about something. What are you most thankful for? Family? Friends? Business? Family comes first for me. This community comes in at a close second. Growing up in Forsyth County, I have seen many positive changes occur in the area. Our community continues to progress and thrive. Small businesses continue to open throughout Lewisville and Clemmons. Winston-Salem has been revitalizing itself and corporations have repurposed older structures and warehouses, giving new life and opportunity for businesses to open their doors to the public.

I am personally employed by a small business in Clemmons, and I feel very privileged to work in the area and work with the amazing people of this community. I speak for our entire company; we are so thankful for the above-mentioned towns and city. We are even more thankful for the people that live here. Without the great people of these communities, we have no business. Without the many businesses that employ the population here in Forsyth County, we have no business. Making sure our community knows how thankful we are for them has always been a priority to myself and the company that employs me, and we would like to reiterate this as we welcome the upcoming holidays.

From all of us here at Marzano Capital Group, we want to wish everyone in Forsyth County a happy upcoming holiday season. Be kind to your neighbor, take the opportunity to let the family and friends around you know how special they are to you, and please take time to remember all that you have to be thankful for during this special time of year!
