Two Maids and a Mop

Along life’s journey, there are times when you come to a fork in the road. You can continue on as you’ve been going, or you can stop and re-evaluate what is important to you and your family. Todd and Crystal Scott reached that fork with a blended family of five and one grandson. Todd, a native of High Point, NC, is the co-owner of Piedmont Industrial Services in Winston-Salem, NC, and Crystal is a Licensed Professional Counselor. With their busy family and schedules, they realized just how important every moment with their family is to them…and priorities began to change.

“After the birth of our youngest son Griffin, I decided to only work part-time as a counselor. Over the next four years, Todd suffered some work-related injuries forcing him to have a complete knee and shoulder replacement. In 2017, after working 23 years at Piedmont Industrial Services, Todd began to look for a way to supplement our income working a less physically demanding job. Over several months, Todd and I explored several different franchise opportunities. During our search for just the right business, I had long conversations about life, family and work with the mother of one of my daughter’s friends, and she introduced me to Two Maids and Mop. As a franchise consultant, she felt that we had the characteristics of a strong franchise owner and since Todd and I are always up for a challenge, we decided to look at the opportunities,” said Crystal.

It didn’t take long for Todd and Crystal to realize that Two Maids and a Mop was the right business for them to pursue. Not only was it a great new venture, but the way that Two Maids and a Mop gives back to their community hit home for Todd and Crystal.

“In 2013, Todd’s mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and Two Maids and a Mop partners with Cleaning for a Reason, a non-profit organization that offers two free cleaning services to any woman going through cancer treatment. When I read that, I knew that our decision was made. My mother-in-law is one of the most independent and strong women I know and during her chemo, not only did her body become weak, but so did her soul. She isolated herself in her home, and because she didn’t feel like cleaning, she didn’t want anyone to see her home not at its best. With her immune system compromised, we were worried about her being exposed to anything in her home that had not been properly sanitized. Struggling financially to pay her bills, the last thing she would’ve done was get a cleaning service, and her pride prevented us from doing it for her. I often wonder, if Cleaning for a Reason would’ve been available then, if my mother-in-law’s worrying could’ve been minimized, allowing her to focus 100% on taking care of herself. There is no doubt that the world doesn’t stop turning and the dust doesn’t stop piling up because you are sick! We are so happy and thankful to say that my mother-in-law is a 4-year survivor and knowing that Two Maids and a Mop would allow us to provide a service that would help other women like her sealed the deal for us,” Crystal commented. With all the positives of their new business, Todd and Crystal purchased the franchise in June 2018 and had their grand opening on August 27th!

In their few months in business, Crystal has been surprised by the fact that many of the people she has talked to have had cleaning services in the past that they really didn’t like, but stayed with out of necessity – saying basically it was easier to stay with a service they didn’t like, than to look for another one. Two Maids and a Mop approaches cleaning in a different way.

“There are several things that set Two Maids and a Mop apart from the others. Clients don’t have to call and wait for a return call, or wait days to weeks to set up an appointment; you can call or just go on the website, get a price and schedule in 30 seconds. We are also a ‘pay on performance’ service, meaning that after each cleaning, clients have the opportunity to rate the job on a scale of 1-10, which determines the hourly rate their cleaner gets paid based on the customer’s rating alone. We feel this approach to cleaning keeps everyone in check; the happier our professional house cleaners make you, the more money they’re able to earn with our company. It creates owners out of every single one of our employees,” Crystal said.
