Twin City Santa: Delivering Magic and Looking for More Elves

Once again, the holiday season is upon us!  Many of you may have already begun to decorate, shop and prepare for a joyful season with friends and family.  However, for many in our community, the holidays are a time of anxiety and worry.  Especially for families with young children who are struggling financially, out of work, or even homeless.

Knowing how important it is for a child to receive a new toy at Christmas, the Twin City Santa (TCS) event was formed in 2002 by volunteers who wanted to make a real difference, right here at home, and it is still a 100% volunteer driven event. In a little less than two decades and with outstanding community support, Twin City Santa has provided more than 40,000 toys to children here in Forsyth County. It is through our continued support and financial giving that they are able to make such an impact on the littlest members of our community.

“In the beginning, Twin City Santa served several purposes: first and foremost, to get toys to deserving kids, but we also wanted to get people downtown and encourage philanthropy among a generation of younger people,” said Wake Wagoner, one of only a handful of volunteers that are making this year’s TCS event happen.

Now in its 18th year, the Twin City Santa Annual Toy Drive and Semi-Formal, for guests 21 years old and up, will take place at The Millennium Center on Friday, December 3rd.  There are so many ways that you can support this vital event and cause!   Perhaps you and yours are looking for a way to kick off the season with flair?  Then the VIP PASS is for you! The $100.00 per person pass is a great way for individuals to support Twin City Santa. The VIP PASS allows for no-wait entry (for one) and expedited drink service at one of the sponsor only bars. This year the VIP Lounge is located in the Speakeasy at the Millennium Center and will feature a private band, Anamika. They are known for playing the Whiskey Box on 4th street. There are a limited number of VIP PASSES available for purchase until November 29th so get yours today!

Or grab a friend and choose the VIP Bundle for two!  This $150.00 option allows for no-wait entry for two and expedited drink service at one of the sponsor only bars.

Early Event Tickets are $30.00 and all attendees are asked to bring along a new, unwrapped toy.  Don’t have time to shop for that toy – no worries, Twin City Santa will do that for you when you buy a $25.00 No Toy Pass along with the ticket level of your choice.  It doesn’t get much easier than that to do some real good while also having a great time!

The first Twin City Santa event was considered a success when around 300 people filled the old Wachovia Building lobby with new toys.  At the most recent event in 2019, over 1,400 party goers enjoyed a memorable party and added to the over 40,000 toys that TCS has distributed – ALL LOCALLY – in the last 18 years!   A successful partnership with the Salvation Army gets those toys into the hands and homes of local children who may not have received one otherwise.

“It is at this most joyous time of year that we are once again so sincerely grateful for the generosity and compassion of our partners at Twin City Santa. Through their efforts we are able to ensure that thousands of children in the greater Winston-Salem area will wake up to find wonderful surprises under the Christmas tree. It is a mission of love and without the contribution of Twin City Santa at Christmas, it would not be possible to serve all the children in need during this Season of Giving,”  said Salvation Army Area Commander Major Stan Colbert.
