While treasures come in all shapes and sizes, you’ll find it impossible to leave The Barn on Country Club without discovering a piece or two that stirs a childhood memory or sparks your imagination!
Owner and manager of this Winston-Salem shopping treat, Renee Floyd, says her inspiration for starting the business almost seven years ago was the desire to do something she truly loved. Her hands-on approach finds her overseeing the shop daily, with team members Hannah Parsons and Jeff Hoxworth (who also happen to be expert furniture painters!).
Filled with home décor, antiques, and collectibles, the shop is a relaxing retreat for lovers of vintage quality and charm. If you’re contemplating a re-do at home, and want to keep costs down, consider the novelty and appeal of re-purposed furniture or light fixtures (that will look like new), while adding unmistakable charm! From Modern Farmhouse, Boho, Coastal, or Traditional, to Mid-Century Modern and Vintage, you’ll find something here for every style and budget. But keep in mind, as the inventory at The Barn on Country Club is constantly changing, if a certain item catches your eye — buy it then and there!
“If you like it, we will help you find the right place for it in your home!” shares Renee. “My favorite part of the job is seeing a customer’s face light up when they glimpse the right piece for their space!”
Sometimes that might mean dabbling in the magic of mixing the old with the new. Maybe you’ve fallen in love with a vintage glass pitcher in the shop, that takes you back to your grandmother’s kitchen, but could also be the perfect addition alongside your own set of eclectic teacups. Or perhaps you’re enamored with an antique mirror in one of the store’s charming vignettes, that might become the focal point of your new family room, becoming a treasure that your own children may pass down one day.
Weaving something that’s been well-loved into your own decor story can make for an interesting vibe — and certainly become an excellent conversation piece!
Renee offers some expert tips for choosing a piece of vintage furniture for your home:
- Measure your space before you shop. That saves you time, energy, and disappointment!
- Determine the look and feel you envision. How do you see a vintage piece working in your home?
- Respect the condition of a piece you love. Vintage furniture likely boasts a few flaws, but minor ones can be repaired. Plus, there’s always the option of refinishing a piece you can’t live without!
While their ever-evolving variety of collectibles and furniture is beyond tempting, the impeccable customer service you’ll find at The Barn on Country Club also sets this local business apart. They offer customers the best and lowest prices possible, and will deliver (for a fee) within the Winston-Salem area. Found a mirror that perfectly matches a dresser you already own? Their experts can paint the mirror frame to match. Have a hard-to-buy-for man in your life? Think vintage vinyl (there’s always an amazing selection of old favorites!) or classic neon signs to add a little personality to his man cave!
If you’re intrigued by blending antique treasures with new items, furniture artist Mark Nyswonger is available at The Barn on Country Club to create custom pieces for your home, including tables, bookcases, vanities, or nightstands. Stop by and browse photos of Mark’s beautiful work, and see custom made examples showcased in different vignettes throughout the store.
Color is always big here, and adding a fresh new coat of paint is also a regular occurrence. The Barn on Country Club is an authorized retailer for the popular ReThunk Junk by Laura, and Farmhouse Paint Company. Monthly painting classes are offered with painting instructor Dionne Jenkins and the store’s multi-level layout offers the perfect upstairs space for classes and groups. Are you already thinking of your next girls’ day out? Painting classes are held once a month on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. — and you can BYOP — bring your own piece of furniture to paint. Fun is guaranteed, and you’ll go home with something you love!
Renee is always eager to lend advice and some creative words of wisdom, and she knows the details of every item in the store. Her love for interior design — and especially repurposing furniture — brought her to this career she truly loves. Between estate sales, auctions, and loyal customers ready to downsize and sell a few family treasures, the shop’s inventory is constantly changing. A life-long lover of detail, you can rest assured Renee has carefully chosen every piece in the store, examined its intricacy, and can likely share a little of its history.
