Skincare 101

The skin is the largest organ in the human body. And like all organs, it requires care and proper nutrients to stay healthy. As you get older, you have to put a little more time and effort into keeping your skin healthy. When we are babies, we start with fresh, beautiful skin, but over time things like sun and irritants can cause our skin to be damaged. Redness, wrinkles, and other signs of wear show up more and more each year. But have no fear, here are seven foolproof tips to help you keep your skin looking fresh and beautiful for years to come.

Eat Right

Diet matters. What we put into our body doesn’t just affect our waistline; it affects everything about us, including our skin. Eating healthy foods full of vitamins and nutrients is a great way to feed the skin you’re in. Some good choices include foods high in healthy fats and antioxidants.

Drink Water

Drinking water is one of the most important things we can do to keep our bodies healthy. And that goes for our skin, too. Being properly hydrated will keep your skin from being extra dry and help flush out toxins, which causes skin to be irritated.

Moisturize

Another way to keep your skin looking fresh is by moisturizing daily. There are a lot of different skin types and a lot of different products on the market, so you may need to talk to a skincare professional to find out what the right choice is for your skin.

Cover Up and Use Sunscreen

The medical community has learned a lot over the last several decades about what the sun can do to our skin. Luckily we are now living in a time where we know that our skin needs to be protected when we’re exposed to the sun. Even minimal amounts of sunlight can affect our skin. You should wear moisturizer daily with sunscreen in it, and protective clothing. Whenever you will be in the sun without protective clothing, you should wear an SPF sunscreen to be safe. Be sure to do your research and even talk to your dermatologist about what the best sunscreen choices are for you.

Morning and Nighttime Routine

Establishing a healthy skincare morning routine is essential to keeping your skin healthy. In the morning, the focus should be cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting your skin. At night, that focus should change. You will want to cleanse again, but then you want to focus on repair and rejuvenation. That can go a lot of ways, so again, do some research and talk to your dermatologist or a skincare professional about the right routine for you.

Treat Yourself and Your Skin

Okay, ladies, this is the fun part. It is time to treat yourself. There are so many amazing skincare treatments that you can do at home or in a spa that will not only make your skin feel great and look great, but will also make you feel relaxed and refreshed. So if you have been thinking about trying a special skincare treatment, give it a go. We all deserve to take a little time out for ourselves and also to do things that make us feel beautiful.

Skincare is so important not only for the health of your skin, but to make you feel good in it. If you’re not in a good skincare routine yet, there’s no time like the present to get started. You can still reverse some damage and find the healthiest version of your skin possible. And you’re worth it. So here’s to your health and your beauty and a lifetime of loving your skin.
