The team at Marzano Capital Group understands market volatility can be unnerving and downright scary, especially when you are in the retirement red-zone. In this article, I will share with you three tips to keep in mind when markets turn negative and news headlines are far from positive.
- Don’t panic! This is first and foremost. When all you hear on the news is doom and gloom, the best piece of advice we can give you is to communicate with your financial advisor(s) and trust in the plan you have created together. Making rash decisions could lead to long-term mistakes.
- Have a plan. What we mean by this is to have a written financial plan. Volatility happens, but in our experience, clients that have a written and actively updated plan are less likely to panic in volatile markets knowing they are still progressing toward their goals.
- Hire a trusted advisor. During periods of market turbulence, it can be difficult to keep emotions from driving your investment decisions. Stock market headlines, with all their twists and turns, can make even the most seasoned investors nervous.
If you’re concerned about volatility, please keep these three points top of mind and make sure you are having clear, transparent, and regular conversations with your Financial Advisor(s).
