M1ND 6YM Helps You Get Your Mind Fit

We all know it is important to stay fit. However, that doesn’t just apply to our bodies. It is equally important to keep our minds fit. Spending time doing activities that stimulate our brains, so they continue to grow, is vital to keeping our minds engaged. At M1ND 6YM in Winston-Salem, they have designed a brain games course, using escape challenges to help you stimulate your brain and provide different learning experiences throughout the month. They can also bring these mind-challenging activities to your next social or corporate event.

After going to an escape room for one of their first dates, owners Rahel (no “c”) and Mathew (one “t”) fell in love with the challenge. Even though they failed that first time, they saw the benefit of doing an activity that was mentally challenging and stimulating. They went on to own two escape rooms for the next several years.

As previous owners of escape rooms in Kernersville and Nairobi, Kenya, they have a clear understanding of how people feel about the escape room experience. They also wanted to incorporate the new science of Neurobics that they had found to be so important in their own lives. Rahel explained, “When we decided to rethink our business, we were well aware that some people don’t like the idea of being enclosed in an escape room and also, they don’t like the time pressure. We knew that there was an opportunity to make something different that could eliminate those two factors and bring people a greater understanding of the importance of brain health and the use of Neurobics.”

Neurobics is a science based on scientific evidence that uses brain exercises to increase neurological health. Dr. Lawrence Katz coined the term, and with the help of Dr. Manning Rubin, they co-wrote “Keep Your Brain Alive, 83 Neurobic Exercises to Help Prevent Memory Loss and Increase Mental Fitness.” Rahel and Mathew are inspired by Neurobics because of the way that it uses all five senses, together with social and emotional interaction, to help the brain ignite new nerve pathways and connections, and strengthen existing ones. They have seen the benefits of how Neurobics benefits people’s memory, attention, logic, and verbal skills by disrupting everyday routines and forcing them to use their brains in new and exciting ways. M1ND 6YM is their way of sharing this with our community.

There are several different options for mind challenges and experiences at M1ND 6YM that will excite both children and adults alike. The Dojo hosts 29 challenge stations throughout the M1ND 6YM, and you download the app onto your phone to complete each one. It takes about 25 to 30 minutes per station, so plan to do between 1-3 each time you come, and to complete all 29 over a period of time. Think of each challenge station as a mini escape challenge. You will need to work with your team to think outside the box and use the clues available to solve the puzzles. At the end of each challenge station, you will receive a code. Codes are collected in the app so that your progress throughout the course is recorded, and you will be ready to use all the codes in the final challenge station. When you complete all 29 challenge stations, you will get a prize and a school of your choice will receive a free mind challenge session for one class. Cost for The Dojo is $12.50 per person per challenge station. Ages 6 and under are free with a paying adult. Ages 7- 11 must be accompanied by a paying adult. Ages 12 – 15 may play alone.

“Experiences” are social gatherings where you will have a chance to use your senses and try something new. Try a new dance, taste a new food, learn new words in a different language, listen to neuroscientists talk about new research and mental fitness. Experiences are held periodically in the back room of the M1ND 6YM, and pricing and times differ.

Private events can be arranged at your place or at M1ND 6YM. Portable mind challenges can be used to help facilitate a team adventure from 15 to 200 guests. This is a great option for private parties, corporate and school events, and even fundraising.

Telequest is M1ND 6YM’s answer to social distancing. While we were all staying home, they came up with printable versions of escape games that are deliverable so you can play at home. You can find these directly on their website.

The M1ND 6YM YouTube channel posts weekly mind challenge videos to continue your brain fitness regiment by giving you ideas on how to break your daily routine using Neurobics. You just need to subscribe to their channel to enjoy these videos.
