Give Your Hair a New Year’s Glow with Rachel at DASH Beauty

Clients rarely visit hair salons solely expecting a quick trim and fresh color. A memorable hair appointment is truly an experience from start to finish. From high-quality highlights to sharing lighthearted laughs with clients, an experienced stylist knows that leaving clients feeling refreshed and beautiful isn’t all about using high-end products and creating the cleanest cut. When it comes to creating state-of-the-art hairstyles while fostering great stylist-client relationships, DASH Beauty in Winston-Salem is a jack of all trades.

After working behind the chair for 15 years, DASH Beauty owner and stylist Rachel Newsome was accustomed to a busy environment, having always worked in a bustling salon full of clients. When the COVID-19 pandemic mandates caused hair salons to shut down, Rachel opted to take a risk and start her own salon in order to navigate the throes of the pandemic. Although she knew she was taking a risk, the idea of being surrounded by her amazing clientele in the privacy of her own salon inspired her to push through any apprehension she might have had throughout the process of starting her own business.

Collaborating with WSNC GIRL GANG, a group of local women who own and work in their own  establishments, has made a positive impact on Rachel as a female business owner in the Triad. She is grateful to surround herself with fellow empowered women who own successful businesses throughout the area. The ladies of WSNC GIRL GANG are always there to lift each other up, support each other in reaching their similar goals, and unite for the greater good of their local businesses. As a wife, mother of four, foster parent, entrepreneur, and homeschool teacher all in one, Rachel has learned how to balance her career with her personal life with the help of the supportive WSNC GIRL GANG.

DASH Beauty is described by Rachel as a “one-woman show,” meaning clients get Rachel’s undivided attention throughout the duration of their appointment. Rachel adores being able to have deep, meaningful conversations with her clients without the background noise of a busy salon. In fact, Rachel’s clients describe her as a good listener and great conversationalist. If clients are nervous about making a change to their beloved locks, Rachel’s ability to make them feel comfortable and cared for helps put their minds at ease. Creating gorgeous hair not only pleases her clients, but also serves as a form of therapy for Rachel herself. She often finds that she loses herself in her work, allowing her to forget the world’s troubles when she steps into the salon.

With a plethora of artistic talents, Rachel is well-versed in wedding do’s, performing freelance work in bridal shops throughout North Carolina. Whether brides are looking for loose, boho braids or a polished, sleek style for their big day, Rachel arrives prepared to deliver top-notch looks for ladies and gentlemen looking to tie the knot. In the midst of traveling for weddings, Rachel is also hard at work growing her hair extension business and strives to become certified in every extension method possible. If that’s not enough, she is also in the process of bringing in clean, plant-derived retail and color lines to DASH. Within the next year, Rachel strives to open a DASH 2.0 satellite branch in Pilot Mountain, where she currently resides with her husband and children.

The name DASH Beauty originated from the first names of Rachel’s four children, with each letter representing the name of each child. Ironically, the name DASH also happens to pair nicely with the iconic Winston-Salem Dash minor league baseball team. Inside the salon, plant-powered color care products such as Loma and Bōkka Botánika are available for purchase. Rachel highly recommends Bōkka Botánika’s Velvet Smooth, a blow-dry balm that makes hair sleek, shiny, and smooth while providing heat protection to delicate strands. Finish off your locks with Abyssianian & Kendi oil to eliminate frizz and add extra shine. Every product sold at DASH is free of sulfates, parabens, phthalate, mineral oils, and smells divine.

Looking to protect your hair from the cold winter air? Rachel’s top priority at DASH is hair health. Every color service provided at DASH is infused with a syringe of B3 Brazilian Bond Builder, which Rachel believes is the ultimate weapon to dramatically reduce breakage and rebuild bonds in the hair. Outside of the salon, Rachel insists on investing in a professional grade, sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to keep hair protected and color looking vibrant. She suggests setting curling irons or straightening devices on low heat settings, ideally around 350-380°, and applying a heat protectant spray before drying and styling for best results.
