Exceptional Young Women in the Community: Meet Ximena Angulo-Arellano

Ximena Angulo-Arellano is currently in the 9th grade and attends Early College at Forsyth Tech. With two years of experience with LEAD Girls of NC through Flat Rock Middle School, she has been inspired by having the ability to empower girls and learn that girls are just as capable as anyone else of accomplishing anything they set their mind to. LEAD has allowed her to make friends, bond and connect with others, and participate in activities with other young women in the community. Ximena was also the 2022 LEAD Girl of the Year, and earned the title by demonstrating leadership, integrity, empathy, and commitment – all of which are imperative for leaders to possess.

Integrity is a consistent trait that Ximena exhibits and she values honesty and accuracy in all that she does. Her strong character allows her to self-reflect and take the necessary steps to grow as a student, LEAD participant, and young woman.

Additionally, Ximena goes out of her way to ensure that classmates or others who are feeling secluded or sad are not overlooked. During lunch at school, she encourages isolated or seemingly lonely students to sit with her, and asks permission to move seats to help other students feel comfortable.

Outside of LEAD, Ximena participates in baile folklórico, or Mexican folkloric dance, in the community for various events with the dance group “Estrellas Latinas.” Through dancing, the group aspires to share and educate others on Hispanic culture. She is also an active member at Our Lady of Mercy Church, and has successfully earned a spot as an honor roll student every quarter throughout middle school. Outside of the classroom, she stocked and organized books in the school library and assisted the Media Center Coordinator with other duties and responsibilities.

After high school, Ximena’s goal is to become a pediatric nurse. In her spare time, she enjoys exercising, creating sketchbooks and digital drawings, arts and crafts, and acting. Her favorite local restaurant is Tin Tin Buffet, where she enjoys eating anything offered on the buffet line. Her dream vacation would be a tropical trip to Hawaii to relax, or an adventure to Rhode Island to attend festivals and explore the state.
