Is Downsizing on the Roadmap for You?
We are receiving more and more calls from clients desiring to downsize or move. Clients of all generations, including both Gen X and Millennials, are on the move. They are asking for help with the entire process. June DeLugas Interiors, Inc. is the place for them. We have the staff and knowledge to help with this process. We can strategize to transition clients into their new, albeit smaller, living quarters or sometimes to another state, or we make the desired changes to age in place. It could be to find space to add an elevator or create a plan to make the living quarters more attractive. In today’s environment, multi-generational households are becoming more common. Millennial children live under the same roof, sometimes into their early 30s. That might require a different set of plans for the house.
Some of our clients are moving to areas such as retirement beach communities. They do not necessarily desire the beach look, yet may want their home to feel modern or traditional. If they are moving, we help them decide what to take and where to put the furnishings as we create a theme for their new home, sometimes traveling to new locations as necessary.
It all begins with, “What do we do with all of this stuff?” These choices can be a real concern for our clients. It is an imposing task that will require many hours of sorting and decision-making, lots of help from family and friends, as well as some serious emotional stress. Making a checklist of what they need to keep, then narrowing that list down to what they want to keep, can help ease the stress. We are not talking about the major pieces of furniture like the sofa and bedroom pieces, but all the accumulated holdings, mementos, toys for grandkids, and other items forgotten in the attic, but once thought too precious to dispose of. Do not forget the deck furniture, which translates into a few comfortable chairs versus the current spread of a sofa, a table with eight chairs, and several additional club chairs. We all love to hoard.
Another factor to consider is the size of their new living quarters. Most people downsize to half of the space they are currently living in, which means more than a 50% reduction in possessions. These days, many children do not have an interest in their parents’ “treasures,” as they have already started accumulating their own version of collectibles. Some of our clients tell us the reason they are downsizing is they want a home here and another home at the beach, as well. It is also trending to purchase second homes, maybe at the beach, therefore downsizing the current home to have two.
Are you looking to downsize from your current home? Make the call today and let June DeLugas Interiors, Inc. ease your transition. We love what we do: helping customers.
