Brooke Notes: The Publisher’s Perspective

Did you know there is more than one type of rest? We all likely think about physical rest, but there are six additional types beyond physical: mental, spiritual, sensory, emotional, creative and social. Megan Taylor wrote a phenomenal article going over each type. It is so interesting that getting adequate sleep is only a small piece of the puzzle to feeling well rested. I saw a quote the other day that resonated with me on this topic. It said, “If you’re resting but guilting or shaming yourself for not being productive the whole time, that’s not actually rest.” Oh, wow! I had never thought about it this way before. Are you guilty of shaming yourself for not being productive or are you good at taking time to rest? I personally thrive on being productive and it can be hard to turn that off at times!

I encourage you to read Megan’s article and see how you can begin to feel more well rested. If you are constantly “running on E,” not only is it tough to be the best version of yourself, but it makes it nearly impossible to show up for others, too! Getting an adequate amount of (all types of) rest is the only way you can show up as the best friend, co-worker, sister, significant other, daughter, mother, etc.

I love the month of March because it means spring is here and warmer weather is on the way! And along with the great weather, LOTS of exciting events are coming up. This issue is full of events—so make sure you are reading every article! Don’t forget that you can always submit events for our print issues and to go on our website!  This is, and always has been, a complimentary service that we offer!

Coming up on March 8th is International Women’s Day! Being a women’s magazine, I’d be remiss not to mention this important day! Learn more about the history of International Women’s Day and how we’re celebrating here in Winston-Salem.

As always, if you visit an event or business you saw in these pages, please let them know you found them in Forsyth Woman! Our advertising partners make this magazine possible to print each month and YOU, our amazing readers, are the “why” behind this publication!

We won’t have a GNO event this month (we’ll be consumed with our 2nd Annual Women on the Move Conference) but stay tuned for an April GNO date announcement soon! You can sign up for our monthly newsletter by scrolling to the bottom of our home page to make sure you never miss an event announcement!

Wishing you a March full of celebrating the women you love!

All my best,

B
