Brooke Notes: The Publisher Perspective August 2022

August means back to school… and the end of summer. A bittersweet month if you enjoy summer like I do! This has been quite a busy summer in the Forsyth Magazines world. Keela, my mom and the founder of Forsyth Magazines, is bringing her dream to life of launching a magazine in the Lake Norman area. She and my dad have lived on the lake for close to 5 years now and it seemed like the perfect time to start this new venture. She’s been working incredibly hard on this magazine, and I am so proud of her.

It’s wild to think, she launched Forsyth Woman nearly 17 years ago…when she was 46 years old and recently laid off from her 25+ year career at Sara Lee. And here she is, 63 years old and launching her FOURTH publication. The woman is unstoppable. She thinks she learns a lot from me, but she has no idea how much I’m soaking in from her. Her perseverance, passion and entrepreneurial drive is unmatched. She told me the other day, “I just know this magazine will be a success. I can’t describe the feeling I have, but I just know it in my heart and soul.” If you know our story, you know that our entire family had doubts when she first had the idea to start Forsyth Woman many years ago, so you better believe I have all the faith in the world in her this go around. I learned my lesson!

I couldn’t agree with her more, I also know that LKN Magazine will be a success because of my mom, and more importantly, because of the team she’s built that’s behind it. If you are ever in the Lake Norman area, be sure to pick up a copy and give us a follow on social media— @LKNMagazine! The first issue will hit the stands at the end of this month.

Speaking of building a successful team, Jodie Brim wrote a fabulous article on building a team—check it out HERE. If you’ve been in business for long, you know that your team is everything. It can make or break your business. An extra special THANK YOU to our amazing team that makes the dream happen each month. Our writers, editors, account executives, graphic designers, photographers… we couldn’t do it without each one of you. Recognizing your strengths and weaknesses and asking for help from those who thrive doing the things that may not be your expertise… THAT is the key to a great team.

A few other announcements:

We will not have a Girls’ Night Out event in August—but go ahead and save the date for September 14th at Bermuda Run Country Club! We have a fun evening in store for you and we’ll be collecting school supplies for the Educator Warehouse! Stay tuned to our social media for all the details (@forsythmags).

Tour de Boutique is right around the corner!! You can learn more about the event on page 24 and you can sign up HERE. This event has grown, it’s evolved, and it’s become something bigger than we ever dreamed of! Shopping local is a passion of ours, and this event truly brings this passion to life.
