Caroline Brown

Caroline Brown, MD, FAAP, received her BA in psychology from Wake Forest University and then went on to medical school at Wake Forest University School of Medicine where she trained in pediatrics. She has practiced general pediatrics in North Carolina for the past 15 years, first serving on faculty at WFUSOM and then at a corporate private practice. This past fall, she opened her new clinic, The Children’s Clinic of Winston-Salem, with the goal of providing high touch, high quality care in a more accessible way. She is also the mother of three young children. Thanks to both her personal experience as a parent and the patients she has cared for clinically, she has become a passionate advocate for children’s mental health and neurodiversity awareness and acceptance. She is also passionate about using social media to destigmatize mental health treatment and provide evidence-based guidance to parents. She can be found on Facebook and Instagram @DrCarolineBrown.

Tonya Cross is a visionary designer and accessory designer for Accented Glory, a brand that “offers hair accessories for adult women with natural hair.” After noticing hair accessories in retail stores catered more towards those without natural hairstyles, Tonya decided to create a change in the market. But, her work does not stop there! She also works full time as a pharmacist for a long-term care facility and was recently appointed as co-chair of Rowan Arts Council Board. “I enjoy creating things by hand,” she said. “It’s my creative outlet. It gives me joy and peace. I believe that positive energy is passed on to each fashion accessory design I create. My high school sweetheart and husband for 31 years has been my biggest supporter. He inspires and encourages me in all that I do!”

MeiLani Hock is a mother of five, author, keynote speaker, coach, award winning real estate investor and the founder of Why NOT Me? Academy which focuses on activating people to create the lives they want by living intentionally especially through learning time management, goal setting and positive habits. When MeiLani’s two-year-old son was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2014, it was the wakeup call she needed in life. She realized it was time to stop making excuses for all the reasons she couldn’t do things, and instead just jump and DO. Instead of focusing on the “Why Me?” situations, she chose to capitalize on the “Why NOT Me?” attitude. She jumped into her lifelong dream of real estate investing in flipping houses. Since 2013, MeiLani has started multiple six figure businesses, but her real joy comes from helping activate women to live intentionally to find more clarity, productivity and joy in their everyday lives. Her passions include traveling, movie nights with her five kids, speaking on the topic of productivity and eliminating the chaos of a noisy distracting world and, of course, helping others become the best version of themselves through living with intention.

Miranda Lowder, a North Carolina native, recently moved back to Winston-Salem after living in Orlando for almost a decade. This is her 18th year as an educator, but this year looks a little different. Instead of being a full-time classroom teacher, she tutors students K-6th grade with Learning with Miranda. Her tutoring builds confidence while teaching content. She meets your child where they are academically and builds fun, engaging lessons to help your child soar. When she is not tutoring, she is making whimsical, one of a kind, multicultural dolls. Her company, Henry Rose Designs, is named after her grandparents, Homer Henry and Rosa. Miranda’s mission is for every child to be able to see themselves in her dolls. Each doll is a work of art that will last a lifetime! Miranda is known for her mix and match patterns, heart cheeks and details that make each doll special. Since moving back to North Carolina, she has been surrounded by friends and family who have jumped into action to support her. You can find her at local craft shows around Forsyth County. Home is where the heart is, and her heart is in North Carolina!

April Joyce is the owner of Southern Glo Skincare & Salt Spa in King, NC. She has numerous specialized certifications in specific areas of advanced skincare treatments and graduated from The Fila Academy in 2009. “I knew pretty early in life the field I wanted to be in…studying the science of skincare in my free time as early as ninth grade,” she said. “Someone once told me when figuring out what to do as a career in your life, take money out of the equation. If money was no issue, what would you do with your time? For me, the curiosity and captivation of skincare is my answer.” April specializes in Microneedling, Hydrafacials, Glo2 Facials and more. She likes to stay abreast of industry leaders, trends, studies, and launches by attending the NY International Esthetics Cosmetics & Spa Conference every year. She is also a huge advocate of listening – hearing and understanding a client’s needs and hopes for their healthy skin journey and then strategizing and working to bring that to fruition. “SoGlo is evolving beyond what I ever thought I was capable of.” She is thankful for a supportive family – her husband Ben, 10 year old daughter and 8 year old son.
