Vintage Ventures: Uncovering Vintage Gems In and Around Forsyth County

Shopping local consignment, thrift and vintage stores helps reduce waste, support small business owners and sparks new hobbies among those who get a thrill out of rummaging through pre-owned goods on a Saturday afternoon. With mass consumerism running rampant with the ease of online shopping and next-day delivery options at major retailers, it’s easy to settle for convenience over quality. However, the Triad hosts a handful of locations that provide high-quality, pre-owned goods at an affordable price that benefits the environment and local economy. Before checking Amazon or “fast fashion” websites for the media, art or clothing items you need, shop secondhand in the Winston-Salem area to keep the environment healthy and local businesses happy. Below are just a few of the fabulous thrift and consignment joints in the area that offer unique, pre-owned products with storefronts just as charming.

etc. Consignment Shoppe

Off The Rack

Downtown Winston-Salem shoppers can stop in at Trade Street’s Off The Rack to find 80s, 90s and other vintage fashion finds. Having opened in 2022, Off The Rack is newer to the Triad, but older in its sense of style. With a colorful and vibrant interior, Off The Rack houses hats, sweatshirts, shoes, T-shirts and more styles suited to your sports team, musical artist, television show or logo of choice. The store’s racks and shelves are carefully curated and organized to help shoppers find what they need at hard-to-beat prices for classic items. Toby and Ansom Lemley also recently opened a Boone location of Off The Rack at 681 West King Street to bring the Trade Street location’s success to the Watauga County residents and students at Appalachian State University. Open Wednesday through Sunday, check out the latest inventory at 619 N. Trade Street, or follow the shop on Instagram at @offtherackvtg.
