Vintage Ventures: A Series Uncovering Vintage Gems In and Around Forsyth County

Shopping local consignment, thrift and vintage stores helps reduce waste, support small business owners and sparks new hobbies among those who get a thrill out of rummaging through pre-owned goods on a Saturday afternoon. With mass consumerism running rampant with the ease of online shopping and next-day delivery options at major retailers, it’s easy to settle for convenience over quality. However, the Triad hosts a handful of locations that provide high-quality pre-owned goods at an affordable price that benefits the environment and local economy. Before checking Amazon or “fast fashion” websites for the media, art or clothing items you need, shop secondhand in the Winston-Salem area to keep the environment healthy and local businesses happy. Below are just a few of the fabulous thrift and consignment joints in the area that offer unique, pre-owned products with storefronts just as charming.

Vintiquitys

Open since 2023, the vibrant signage of Vintiquitys at 834 S. Broad Street in Winston-Salem is hard to miss. Beautifully and creatively painted, bright exterior colors signal just the type of antiques, vintage finds and oddities that happen to be inside. In fact, you can catch a few items for sale outside the storefront as well.

The interior of Vintiquitys is quite unlike most antique or thrift stores. Funky, unique and stylish finds line the store, and popular shoes and fashion pieces are also available for purchase. Interested in stopping by? Vintiquitys is open Wednesday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Drop in on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Check out Vintiquitys on Facebook, and follow the team on Instagram at @broadvintiquitys.

Stone Soup Vintage

A hop and a skip away from Viniquitys is neighboring Stone Soup Vintage, another eclectic and fun-to-browse shop that is a perfect stop for a weekend thrift haul. At 836 S. Broad Street, Stone Soup Vintage is women owned and carries goods and collectibles that shoppers are unlikely to find in many other places around town. With a bright blue exterior, it’s hard to turn away from the temptation of browsing vintage décor, art, jewelry, apparel, accessories and more.

Stone Soup Vintage is open Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Follow @stonesoupvintage on Instagram to see sneak peeks of what you can find in store.

Design Archives

Downtown Winston-Salem’s Design Archives Vintage & Handmade Emporium houses vintage and handmade goods from more than 150 vendors and artists in a very suiting, art deco-style building that is a former car showroom and music shop. Owned by Kit Rodenbough, Design Archives has been a longstanding vintage staple in Winston-Salem since 2001 and winner of many local awards for its off-the-beaten-path offerings.

With an additional location in Greensboro owned by Ryan Ray, Triad shoppers have their fair share of finds to choose from. Design Archives is always on the hunt for new vendors. Interested in having your pieces old in the shop? Fill out a vendor application online at shopdesignarchives.com.
