Vintage Ventures: A Series Uncovering Vintage Gems In and Around Forsyth County

The Triad hosts a handful of local consignment, thrift and vintage stores that provide high-quality, pre-owned goods at an affordable price that benefits the environment and local economy. As mentioned in past articles, below are three fan favorites for fabulous thrift and consignment joints in the area offering unique, pre-owned products with storefronts just as charming.

Snob Shop

With women-owned businesses near and dear to Forsyth Woman’s heart, Snob Shop at 1020 Burke Street in Winston-Salem boasts of top-notch consignment finds – but don’t let the name fool you. Snob Shop prides itself in providing its shoppers with reasonable prices for great steals. Snob Shop specializes in reselling furniture, designer goods, art and decor, men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, toys and games, and more.

The Snob Shop team allows potential consignors to stop by for an appointment and review for 20 items adhering to consignment guidelines. Consignors earn 40-50% commission on items sold, depending on price. Snob even allows customers to browse the store’s inventory online, which is a true gem for introverts and out-of-towners looking to support the local consignment industry.

Snob Shop is passionate about being environmentally friendly. Snob Shop’s webpage explains, “The manufacturing and consumption of products account for 70% of emissions, highlighting the need for mindful consumption and circular lifecycles for products. The Snob Shop takes its responsibility to the environment very seriously; we don’t use disposable shopping bags and use only recycled materials for packing.”

The Lane Exchange

Contrary to stationary thrift stores, The Lane Exchange thrift bus gives fashionable shoppers something new to write home about. The brain child of Owner Brit Amerson, The Lane Exchange travels around in a decorative, full-size school bus to post up at pop-up locations and various events throughout the Triad. Featured on WXII in February of 2023, The Lane Exchange promotes upcycling and purchasing pre-owned clothing items and accessories rather than supporting the mass production of goods and overconsumption. Offering delivery, in-store shopping and in-store pickup, items for sale on the thrift bus are also listed on Poshmark, Depop and eBay.

Not only does thrifting support other local business owners such as Brit, but it also allows browsers to add a story behind pieces in their wardrobe. There is something so satisfying about bringing home a gently used rare find – especially from a mobile thrift store. Keep tabs on where to find the thrift bus next by following The Lane Exchange on Facebook or checking @thelaneexchange on Instagram.

The Barn on Country Club

Open since 2016, The Barn on Country Club is closely tended to by Owner Renee Floyd, who works at The Barn daily to ensure operations run smoothly. Renee and her small team move inventory in and out of The Barn, refurbish and paint incoming products, and deliver those products to customers around the clock. In fact, Renee is so passionate about her customers’ experiences that she personally purchases each item sold in store.

The Barn on Country Club is the ideal spot for couples looking to balance the feminine and masculine energy in their home by turning used, functional items into brand new decor. Creative shoppers can turn many rustic farm items into country chic accent pieces or light fixtures. While browsing the massive floor space of The Barn on Country Club, customers looking to spruce up their man cave will be thrilled by The Barn’s attic, stocked with masculine memorabilia and decor. The Barn carries an excellent selection of beer tap handles, neon lights and authentic signs to gift to the men in your life.

Love antiques, but aren’t exactly sure how to use them in your home? In the small chance that she hasn’t already offered to show you around the shop, ask Renee for information on pieces throughout the floor or ask for her advice on how to make them stand out.

Start shopping today at 4886 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104. To stay updated on the latest news from Renee and her team, follow @thebarnoncc on Instagram and check out the team’s Facebook page. For store hours and contact information, visit thebarnoncountryclub.com.
