Pie Guys is a culmination of a lifelong love of pizza, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a genuine love for community. Owned by real estate agent and pizza-aficionado Robert Wiley, Pie Guys has been a favorite for many since it opened in 2018.
“We serve New York-style pizzas exactly like those served in the Big Apple,” said Robert. “I love New York style pizza, and I take pride in bringing the taste of Manhattan to Winston-Salem by curating the finest meats, cheeses and ensuring our dough and tomato sauce are made fresh daily.”
This attention to detail and commitment to high-quality ingredients have created some menu issues for Robert in 2021. “The supply shortages are no secret – virtually every industry has felt the frustration of not being able to get products. But as for me, I’m not going to sacrifice quality in my shop just to get a lesser-quality alternative. With supplies being more difficult to find, I regrettably had to eliminate some subs and salads from my menu this year. Supply shortages and the fact that the labor shortage finally caught up to us made it such a hard decision. But first and foremost – we are a pizza shop. I had to make sure I could procure what we needed so our team could do what they do best: make the best pizza in town.”
Despite Robert’s angst about pulling certain menu items, his Facebook post was covered with understanding support from those who are Pie Guys regulars. “I was so thankful for their kind words. But it’s certainly not the first time this community has shown us support. When our restaurant was temporarily closed in 2021 due to arson, our return to business was met with a tidal wave of support from our community. I’m still blown away by it. I love this town, and I’m so grateful that I get to own and operate my dream business here in the Winston-Salem / Clemmons area!
“And as grateful as I am for everyone’s support, I do have good news! We anticipate adding our subs and salads back to the menu in January, and even better, we plan to reopen our dining room around the same time! I don’t have exact dates, but I hope everyone will follow us on social media and stay tuned for the announcements.”
Robert shared, “It’s hard to believe that we’ve been in business for four years already. And between COVID, a fire, and these supply issues, we’ve had our share of trials. But we are resilient, and we continue to show up, operating Pie Guys from a heart of gratitude for all who have embraced our pizza and staff, and shown us their tremendous loyalty. I am grateful.”
