Always true to a client’s personality and lifestyle, Hillcrest Vision focuses on creating a customized plan for every vision need.
Providing comprehensive eye care and one of the largest selections of frames and lenses in Winston-Salem – and now in Mocksville – Juawana Hall, OD, founded Hillcrest Vision in 2009. For 15 years, she has delivered on her promise to provide the highest quality eye care experience to patients of all ages. A Davie County resident herself, Dr. Hall saw a void in eye care options in the area and wanted to bring the same level of care to Mocksville residents that patients have come to respect from the Winston-Salem location.
“Our patient philosophy is simple – to listen first,” explains Dr. Hall. “We need to understand how a patient uses their vision during each day in order to recommend customized optical solutions for them. In the same way, we need to listen to how a disease process is affecting a patient’s vision, so we can develop a treatment plan they can carry out. We value a high-tech approach, utilizing the newest innovations to best evaluate the eyes and give us a better picture of what’s going on. We do all this in a warm environment that makes people feel at ease.”
Both offices offer full-service care including exams, contact lens fittings, diabetic exams, advanced dry eye treatments, glaucoma treatment, emergency care and an expansive optical experience. Hillcrest is also proud to offer the latest in diagnostic and treatment technology – her own areas of clinical interest being dry eye, specialty contact lenses and corneal disease.
Caring for your entire family, Hillcrest Vision recommends a child’s first eye exam be between ages six to 12 months, and then again at age three, to ensure their focusing system is working properly. Before kindergarten at age five, they suggest an exam to make sure the child’s vision is perfect, with no concerns that would impede learning. At the opposite end of the age spectrum, it’s important to evaluate and manage conditions like diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration as we age, so an annual visit is recommended for all adults.
As part of their continued growth in Winston-Salem, Seth Jones, OD, and Mark Miriello, OD, have been added to the team. All three doctors will practice at both locations.
“Dr. Seth Jones joined the Winston-Salem practice in 2023,” shares Dr. Hall. “As a student, he rotated through our office and decided he would like to practice with us after graduation. Raised in Mocksville, he is a Davie High School graduate and went to Wake Forest for undergraduate work – so this area is definitely home for him!”
Dr. Jones’ areas of clinical interest are glaucoma, pediatrics and diabetic eye care, and he sees patients of all ages.
“No stranger to a small town himself, Dr. Mark Miriello was raised in Sanford, NC and practiced in rural North Carolina earlier in his career,” adds Dr. Hall. “He moved to Philadelphia to teach at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry for four years but is excited to be back in North Carolina long term!”
Dr. Miriello’s areas of clinical interest are diabetic eye care, dry eye and glaucoma.
“We carefully select doctors and staff who understand the importance of our mission and commit to continuing the strong reputation we have as a patient-centered organization,” adds Dr. Hall. “We understand quality care takes time, and we want to make sure our patients have a firm understanding of their condition and how we’re treating them. We are often managing individuals with multiple issues, including systemic conditions that affect the eye, and we know it can be scary to consider the prospect of losing vision. We strive to educate, so patients have a better understanding of their situation.”
From appointment scheduling to check-in, throughout your exam and optical experience, you’ll always feel at home with Hillcrest Vision. You’ll likely learn that, as a mom of three, Dr Hall is always on the go, but she does enjoy crocheting, travel and a good book. Dr. Jones loves horses, the beach and he’s a self-proclaimed foodie, while Dr. Miriello enjoys traveling with his fiancé, trying new foods and – in his words – all manner of nerdy pastimes.
“We genuinely care for our patients like family,” Dr. Hall adds. “That’s the Hillcrest Way!”
