Giving Thanks! Trellis Team is Grateful for Volunteers

If you know a Trellis Supportive Care volunteer, you know somebody special. They give freely of their time, talents, and kindness to support patients and families facing the physical and emotional challenges of a life limiting illness. They also provide tremendous support to our team as we work to carry out our mission.

That’s why it gives us great pleasure to share our heartfelt gratitude with each and every volunteer who is a part of our trellis, our framework of support.

As our organization adopted the mantra, COVID Can’t Stop Compassion, so too did our volunteers. In the midst of this challenging year with so many daily activities coming to a halt or being drastically altered, our volunteers donned the PPE and did what they could do – safely and creatively – to keep providing support.

For some, it meant visiting patients at a window or on a front porch, delivering care packages and groceries, writing cards to patients, sewing masks and gowns, providing screenings at the welcome desk of our Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, baking, supporting our pharmacy, and a myriad of other thoughtful things to help others. When we say volunteers are at the heart of all we do, we mean it.

In fact, we were founded by a group of volunteers. This group of impassioned community members, affectionately known as the Back Porch Gang, were pioneers. They created our organization from an idea and vision – becoming the first hospice care organization in North Carolina nearly 45 years ago. Volunteers are an integral piece of our history and central to who we are today.

We understand that time is a luxury. And in our line of work, it’s especially poignant when we think in terms of time for those we serve. It’s something to be cherished. It’s a treasured gift.

For all the time our volunteers give freely, and for all their support, we say THANK YOU.
