What if an attic could become a joyful living space instead of an unused storage space? This transformation on Carolina Circle answers that very question while illuminating the many benefits of an attic renovation.
Homeowner Ileana Jacks partnered with ICON Custom Builders to tackle her attic project, after two successful renovations with the ICON team. Her goal was create additional living space for her family of five, and optimize it for her three growing children.
“Our kids are getting older and having their own space was important for our family,” Jacks shared.
ICON transformed the unfinished attic space previously used as storage into several beautiful, functional spaces. The reconfigured floor plan allowed for a new “bonus space” – perfect for creative activities, games, and relaxation.
Jacks said, “now it’s a colorful, fun, open place that is used constantly.”
In addition, ICON improved the layout and increased storage space in her sons’ bathroom, elevated her daughter’s bathroom design, and refreshed the reading nook area, all while incorporating details to make the space feel cohesive. Custom built-ins combine beauty and function, and blend seamlessly with the other design elements.
Design coordinator Melissa Hayes describes this process as “designing in the eaves.” Her design selections honor the family’s bold design aesthetic. Vibrant paint colors, unique artwork, and whimsical wallpaper create a joyful experience.
Jacks emphasized, “adding lots of color brightens everyone’s day.”
Reflecting on the months-long remodeling process, Jacks shared, “renovations are never fun, but they made it as easy on us as possible.”
Not only did ICON streamline the process, but the benefits of a renovation like this are many. Her family enjoys the attic more, her now children have the space to be creative and independent, and the increased square footage adds value to the home.
