Dear June: Living Color, Fresh Appeal

There are many interior design strategies you can use now without creating added stress and wasting money. First, ask yourself, how do you really LIVE in your space? Use the answer to that question to determine where you should save and where you should splurge. For example, whenever you entertain, do your guests always seem to wind up in your kitchen and den? This is where you should focus your interior design dollars. Also, it is better to invest in one great piece of furniture, than on a dozen sale priced items. When selecting accessories and artwork, quality and classic design are best. Avoid trendy items that are found in the clearance aisle.

Customizing furniture pieces is so easy, as well, and will be money well spent. Manufacturers are becoming more and more accustomed to designers requesting unique and different pieces, not to mention scale. A custom item might be a new ottoman with a fresh fabric for center focus. Customization can be very practical, if you use inexpensive fabrics such as muslin or cotton, or use faux linen for window treatments and then more expensive “one of a kind” fabrics for pillows and accents. It will make a huge difference to spend your money on the focal points. We really like artwork that is bright and beautiful, because it can add so much to a room. We have local artists’ work in our showroom. We are constantly receiving accessories from our market trips and antique travels.  Most customers say they love coming into our retail shop because they don’t see what we have in other places. Our retail location frequently has new and exciting home furnishings.

Finally, don’t forget that paying a professional to help with your projects will save you money overall. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been called to help someone who thought they were saving money by going online.  Most of the time they find that when the item is delivered, it is not the same size, color, or quality they thought it would be. Then it is time-consuming and frustrating to return the item. We take pride in the products that we offer. We value the quality and craftsmanship of great design and furnishings. June DeLugas Interiors offers a one-of-a-kind service that will tell the story of your home for years to come.

What have you been thinking about lately for your home: window treatments, remodeling your kitchen or bathroom, new upholstery furniture, pillows, a new rug, or all of these items? Take your time and get professional assistance to help create the flow and expedite the process. Most customers are overwhelmed when they come to us. They have begun the daunting job of finding all the items they need, and if they have already started the remodeling process, they are really frustrated. If you let us plan and scale the first seed of what will look great and then implement it, I promise you it will go much smoother. What happens is sometimes clients see one piece they focus on in a magazine or online, but can’t find the essential pieces that work with it. This is enough to drive any person crazy. We have it all at our fingertips. I have said this before, we start with a scaled drawing and go from there. We look at hundreds of fabrics, art, furniture, lighting, rugs, paint colors, and accessories to create a complete and perfect design with no work for you.

Don’t forget; it is that time of year to finish decorating your home for visitors coming in for the holidays. Christmas is just around the corner.

God Bless and Merry Christmas!
