Since the first day Drs. Jessica and Joshua Katz opened Aligned Health & Wellness in Kernersville in 2007 – and throughout their exciting expansions to Winston-Salem and Burlington – the two have devoted themselves to improving the daily lives of peripheral neuropathy patients of all ages.
That incredible care has been a true blessing to Winston-Salem resident Danielle Borland, who learned of Aligned Health & Wellness about a year ago thanks to her husband who just happened to see a commercial for the practice.
“My husband had watched me suffer for so long with numbness in my feet and excruciating pain, and he encouraged me to see what the practice was all about,” Danielle shares. “A year later, I am very grateful I made that call!”
Before her connection with Dr. Katz, Danielle had previously been unable to sleep without the assistance of heavy medication. She now happily shares that she hasn’t needed that medicine to sleep in four or five months.
As a cheer coach in the Winston-Salem area for more than 15 years, the 47-year-old Danielle had always been very social and active. More than anything, she hopes her story will show younger folks that neuropathy isn’t only an elderly person’s issue – and that wonderful treatment exists with Aligned Health & Wellness!
“Dr. Katz is like family now – I am proud to come into the office, and I can tell they are proud of me in return for making progress,” Danielle adds. “I’m already line dancing again and cheering with my girls!”
Danielle is quick to mention the importance of having a strong support system of friends and family – which she has – and that making your treatment a priority is a must. She’s fortunate that she’s able to coordinate much of her treatment into her daily work routine.
Dr. Joshua Katz explains the therapy plan he put together to help Danielle improve her nerve function, reduce discomfort and support healthier blood flow – all without medication or surgery.
“We first supported her nerves from the inside, with clinically studied nutrients that improve circulation and give damaged nerves the building blocks they need to repair,” he shares. “Her treatment also includes a gentle, bio-engineered electrical therapy designed to retrain damaged nerves so they fire correctly again. Think of it as helping a ‘fuzzy’ radio station tune back into its proper signal.”
Sensory activation therapy for the feet was also part of Danielle’s regimen, which targets the nerve receptors on the bottom of the feet to improve stability, balance and nerve-to-brain communication.
“It basically reminds sleepy nerves, ‘Hey…wake up, you’ve got a job!’ and that is so important,” Dr. Katz explains.
Rounding out Danielle’s treatment – which requires quarterly follow-ups – is low level light therapy, where specific wavelengths of light support blood flow, cellular repair and nerve regeneration. It’s relaxing, painless and helps the body produce more energy where healing is needed.
For Danielle, joining the Aligned Health & Wellness family has been life changing! Now back in touch with her energetic, outgoing wonderful self, she is a true testament to the expertise, professionalism and personal care that Dr. Katz delivers to every patient.
Another way the doctors share their non-drug-based approach to peripheral neuropathy is with lunch-and-learn educational seminars, held on most Tuesdays at the Olive Garden located at 170 Hanes Mall Circle in Winston-Salem. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Aligned Health & Wellness office.
