Take a step back in time and visit the Lewisville Country Market. Even with modern conveniences, the owners, Roger and Sandy Hester, have designed a store that brings to mind times when folks visited their local market to shop and stayed to visit for a while. The store is filled with local produce, local baked goods, and locally raised meats. Notice the emphasis on local – they’re all about supporting local farmers and vendors. “My husband and I are both native North Carolinians. Roger loves farming and that’s where the original dream of the market originated,” explained Sandy. “We started selling produce in 2010 under a tent near our current location and bought this building when it became available. We officially opened in August of 2016. We currently have five employees and 20+ vendors.”
Customers actually get that hometown vibe the moment they step onto the front porch. There are items to keep feathered friends fed and happy, baskets to fill with flowers, and fresh seasonal produce on display.
Inside the store, the wall perimeters have bushel baskets filled with more fresh-for–the-season produce. The freezer is stocked with sausages, beef, chicken, and bacon. The refrigerated units have local cheeses, pimento cheeses, milk, and eggs. Products from Hill Family Farm, Magic coffee brand, and Jojo’s Homestyle Pimento are just a few of the product lines they carry. There are freshly made pies, chicken pies, and bags with dried beans to make soups to keep you warm. Select some fresh honey and let’s not forget the candy counter. What country store would be without candy?
Besides the foods, there are also handcrafted items that might pique your interest. Every kitchen needs some knitted or crocheted dishcloths and drying towels. The handcrafted inventory changes as often as the seasonal produce.
Each visit to Lewisville Country Market is different. Since they follow the growing season in the area, you can expect to find the freshest products around. “During the winter months,” Sandy explained, “one of our big sellers are A Full Measure Chicken Pies.”
Lewisville Country Market is conveniently located at 6373 Shallowford Road. Their hours through the winter months (January through March) are from Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, closed Sunday. For the rest of the year, they are open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Sundays from noon to 5:00 pm.
