I’ve narrowed down 7 key pieces that need to be in every girl’s closet. If you have these pieces, you should be set for tons of events, including work and play. Make sure when you consider these wardrobe staples, you buy quality pieces over trendy pieces. The general fashion “rule” is to spend more money on the classics and get the trendy pieces on sale. You’ll be wearing the classics for years to come!

Cocktail Dress

The first key piece is a cocktail dress. For me, this means a black V-neck, sleeveless dress with an A-line skirt. This is a staple that will never go out of style. I can dress it up with sparkly heels or dress it down but pair it with a vest and boots. Make sure you choose a style that is timeless and can grow with you over the years.

Nice Blazer

Blazers are a go-to in my closet! I love to rock a blazer with a silky top underneath, jeans and heels for a fun date-night look or wear that same blazer with a pencil skirt and nude heels to work. Make sure your blazer is tailored in the waist and fits you to perfection. The better your blazer fits, the more you’ll be reaching for it in your closet.

Go-to Pair of Jeans

Every girl needs a favorite pair of jeans that makes her feel like Beyoncé. I have a couple pairs of jeans that I am always reaching for because they slim my legs and booty and feel so comfortable. I choose a dark wash skinny jeans with some rayon on the fiber content to allow for extra stretch.

Nude Heels (or Flats)

You can wear nude heels (or flats) with most outfits. Choose a heel height that isn’t too sky high and can actually be walked in. Too many times I have made the mistake of buying heels too high just because they look good. Never again! You can buy heels that look good and that aren’t so high that they are dangerous. When buying nude heels, make sure the material isn’t suede and can be fixed if they are scuffed up.

Chunky Boots

In the fall and winter, most of us live in chunky boots, jeans and vests. Invest in nice boots because boots will never go out of style. I love Frye boots because the quality is superior and they age beautifully.

Substantial White T-Shirt

I cannot tell you how many years I was searching for the perfect white shirt that I can wear with everything from jeans, to trousers, to pencil skirts. I finally found amazing white shirts that are not see-through at Nordstrom. I like Michael Stars and Halogen brands. Find what works for you and buy it!

Tailored Button Down

Last but not least, every girl needs an awesome-fitting button down. Let’s be honest, we’ve all fallen prey to the button down that is ill-fitting and we are worrying we will either bust through it or we look like we’re swimming in it. The key to a good fitting button down is to get it tailored. You will want to make sure it fits in the waist, arms and shoulders and that it gives you that hour-glass silhouette.
