6 Benefits of Launching a Podcast – More Than a Mic: The Surprising Ways Podcasting Changes Everything

Do you own a business? Are you a mom? Do you like telling stories or talking with others about their stories? If you answered “yes” to any or all of these questions, you should consider starting a podcast. While it might seem farfetched upon initial thought, the reality is that podcasts provide numerous benefits for their hosts.

When I started Twin City Talk, a local podcast devoted to sharing stories of those who work, play, live and visit Winston-Salem in October of 2024, it was more of a passion project. It’s grown and been incredibly beneficial in so many ways, many I never would have thought.

As I write this, we’ve published 55 episodes, so I wanted to share with others the benefits of starting a podcast. Whether you have already been pondering the thought or, like me, it wasn’t even something you considered until someone brought it up, here’s your sign to launch your own podcast!

Turn Thoughts Into Impact

The biggest benefit of starting a podcast is that it gives you a voice. It’s a way to share your story or help others share their stories if it’s interview-style. There will always be people with whom your stories resonate.

Pure Fun Behind the Mic

One unexpected benefit I found was that it brings me so much joy. Every recording session is fun and something I truly enjoy. I always walk away in a good mood!

Endless Creative Possibilities

The creative potential is unlimited with podcasts. There are so many topics and guests that the possibilities are virtually endless. It’s very unlikely you won’t have content to cover once you define your podcast and begin recording.

Marketing Tool with Massive Reach

In 2025, more than 584 million people listened to podcasts around the world. Experts expect that number to go to more than 600 million in 2026. Right here in the US, 55% of people (age 12 and up) listened to podcasts monthly in 2025. Those are huge numbers! Meaning, it’s a great marketing tool that isn’t going anywhere.

Confidence You Didn’t Know You Needed

Another unexpected benefit was that it helped boost my confidence. I wasn’t necessarily lacking confidence prior to launching the podcast, so at the time, I really didn’t think it was something I needed. However, after launching Twin City Talk, I’ve found time and time again it is a great confidence boost.

Relationships That Go Beyond the Studio

Unless you do your podcast completely solo which I wouldn’t really recommend, it’s an amazing way to meet people and build relationships. For me, I’ve gained two wonderful friendships with my producer Tim Beeman of Such-N-Such Media and co-host Burgess Jenkins. Furthermore, I’ve met so many amazing people we’ve had as guests.
