First keep the peace within yourself, then you can also bring peace to others.
(Thomas a Kempis)
Worry gives a small thing a big shadow
(Swedish Proverb)
Wednesday’s word: PEACE. Do you want to grow peace within your mind and spirit? What if the word peace described your home, workplace and even your mind and spirit? Is it possible to have a peaceful spirit even in the midst of daily duties? Most of us would gladly welcome greater peace and calm within our minds and our overall being.
Peace within ourselves – what does it look like? What helps you cultivate a sense of peace within you? Here are my ten top ways to cultivate peace in my life.
- Turn off the news when I’ve heard just enough to be informed. (Sometimes I even take “news” holidays.)
- Refuse to read those negative emails; in fact I generally delete all forwards (fwds ).
- Play with my dog, Kipper.
- Read
- Reduce the number of times I check facebook or personal email.
- Avoid Negative Nancys or Nellies– especially those who attack other people with words.
- Consider that good enough is often better than perfect.
- Turn off the TV and allow silence to fall on your home.
- Sing and/or listen to music – I have several play lists and some are titled: Peace, Calm, etc. .
- Visit the Prayer Room at the church I attend. (Hillsdale UMC, Advance). It’s open to everyone and anyone and it is open 24 hours/day.
How do you welcome peaceful moments into your life? What could you do today to nurture peace within your spirit?

Earnestine says:
I find peace sitting on my patio looking at the lake, the sky, birds, etc. and reflecting
on God’s goodness. Another place I find peace is when I take walks outside in the
evening, especially as I watch the sun setting in a beautiful sky.
Keela Johnson says:
This is AMAZING, and I am going to try really hard to practice many of these…. I do drive my car in silence (that is if I am not on the phone… sorry Oprah!)
Thanks Wendee!
Wendee says:
Earnestine, there is something about a sunset, the lake and nature that speaks peace to my soul too! Reading what you wrote . . . I felt like I was walking with you! ?
